The classic Monopoly board game was selected for the purposes of a study about attitudes towards a universal basic income (UBI) in Finland, due to the large popular awareness of the game. Players get allocating randomly player profiles representing different socioeconomic groups, and through the game can experience the potential effect of a UBI introduction on the day-to-day financial capability of people with very different means.

Gameplay: After one round of Monopoly, a taxable UBI is introduced. The UBI amount and player profiles are based on UBI modeling, conducted during my PhD research at the University of Helsinki, and serve non-profit research purposes.

The game lasts approximately 1-1.5 hour overall.

Pelin pohjana toimii tuttu Monopoly lautapeli. Monopoly pelin aikana koet perustulon vaikutukset eri sosioekonomisia lähtökohtia edustavien pelaajaprofiilien talouteen ja elämäntilanteisiin. Peliä hyödynnetään tutkimuksessa asenteita perustuloa kohtaan.

Ensimmäisen Monopoly kierroksen jälkeen, perustulo otetaan käyttöön pelissä. Perustulon määrä ja pelaajaprofiilit perustuvat perustulomallinnukseen, joka on ollut osa väitöskirjatutkimustani Helsingin yliopistolla.

Pelin tavoitteet:

• jatkaa tutkimusta asenteista perustuloa kohtaan. Peliin osallistuminen edellyttää vastaamisen lyhyeen kyselyyn ennen pelin aloitusta, sekä pelin jälkeen

• luoda keskustelua perustulon aiheesta
